A senior instructor at the University of Benin, Dr Godwin Omofonwa, has been shot dead by a group of suspected furnished looters in Ovia North-East Local Government Area of Edo State.

He was shot dead at his habitation in Evbuomore quarters in the early hours of Wednesday.

It was accumulated that the looters confiscated him and others of their assets.

One of the outfitted thieves was, notwithstanding, shot dead amid a weapon duel with the police while five others fled.

Affirming the episode, the University's Public Relations Officer, Mr Michael Osasuyi, said the expired was the examination officer of the Faculty of Education.

"It is a major hit to the college; the bad habit chancellor is disheartened and sympathizes with individuals from the family. We ask and trust that everyone assembles hands to help the legislature and the police.

"The police can't perform enchantment; they work with data. Anyone who has helpful data should offer it to the law authorization offices with the goal that they can brush the zone and reestablish peace to the state."

The state Commissioner of Police, Mr. Johnson Kokumo, told newsmen in Benin that the charge got a trouble call around 1.14am on Wednesday, including that some policemen were promptly conveyed in the scene.

"In the following weapon fight, one of the pirates was shot dead, while others got away. Tragically, Dr Godwin Omofonwa, an instructor in the Department of Education, University of Benin, kicked the bucket from gunfire wounds he got from the criminals.

"This specific occurrence is a detached case as wrongdoing has been on a descending pattern since my presumption of office as the Commissioner of Police, Edo State. The police have been on the trail of this specific gathering of criminals, who have been upsetting the region, until the point when one of them met his Waterloo," he included.

Kokumo noticed that things recouped from the executed thieves included three cell phones having a place with the expired speaker, a solitary barrelled firearm, an iron shaper, one live and 12 consumed cartridges and a light.
